Job Description

The Shipping Manager interacts with carriers, shipping office and warehouse personnel as well as other managers and personnel to ensure the efficient flow of orders to customers and receipt of materials and supplies for plant production. The Shipping Manager is required to work with scheduling and production personnel to ensure proper scheduling and tracking of shipments, handle billing and invoicing functions, as well as track paperwork. Supervises and coordinates activities of workers concerned with selecting and preparing products for shipment.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow
• Serves as a strong advocate of workplace safety and ensures associates work safely; leads by example
• Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures
• Accurate inventory control and reporting
• Monitors shipments to ensure timely receipt, ascertains any damages and verifies correct quantity
• Prepares correct Bill of Ladings
• Communicates with carriers
• Schedules pickup, deliveries and repairs for vendors to ensure a smooth operating warehouse (i.e. waste, fuel, forklift, equipment, etc.)
• Ensures staff are brought in to cover absenteeism and holidays
• Correctly records time and attendance of associates
• Directly supervises and assigns (via written and oral instructions) tasks to warehouse associates based on business need and customer priority
• Manages finished goods inventory to optimize service, space utilization, warehousing and shipping efficiencies
• Manages fabric inventory to optimize service, space utilization, warehousing and efficient delivery to production processes
• Responsible for department to meet company service, quality, cost and safety objectives
• Supervises the performance of all tasks involved in the shipment, requisition and storage of materials, supplies and equipment into and from warehouse
• Coordinates efficient material flow within organization
• Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of workers
• Maintains harmony among workers and resolve grievances
• Interviews and recommends for hire new employees
• Confers with shipping/receiving coordinator and/or supervisor to ensure coordination of other warehouse activities
• Confers with other managers outside of the shipping warehouse to ensure coordination of all shipping, receiving and material handling needs
• Ensures correct shipment of orders
• Identifies employees’ skills and develops them by coaching and counseling employees on a regular basis
• Conducts performance reviews and provides continual feedback on both positive and negative performance
• Complies with all company safety policies and procedures
• Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager

• Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent with a minimum of five years of experience in the shipping/warehouse management field
• Must possess strong multi-tasking abilities
• Must possess strong communication skills
• Ability to complete required paperwork and forms
• Ability to utilize the company’s computer system for the purpose of tracking lots for upcoming shipments
• Computer experience a plus.
• Ability to work well with associates, supervisors and carriers in a high volume work atmosphere
